I wanted to go and live in the UK, do the Aussie working holiday thing. But when the stock market collapsed so did my dream.
Luckily, the downturn also meant that my company jumped at the chance to save some money on wages and I was granted a 10 week leave of absence!
With our plans now only mildly thwarted, The Emu and I set about planning an amazing trip. Except we had one we'd prepared earlier. So in the spirit of efficiency, we kept our original plan to travel deep into far Eastern Europe visiting the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as well as Poland the Ukraine and Hungary. Throw Japan, Finland, Austria and Germany in there as well and our "choose your own adventure" plan was almost complete.
And so it is that these two intelligent (know it all), enthusiastic (hyperactive), capable (control freak) women will travel together in close quarters across borders, time zones and cultures for 66 days until their journey culminates with goth clubs and gin in London.
In the meantime, stay tuned for such fascinating planning tales as: "The Emu's guide to rail passes" and "What do you mean I have to stay in a dorm!?!"
