Adventure 8: Pärnu

So here we are in lovely Pärnu. We were very much looking forward to working on our Moon tans and swimming in the lovely Baltic Sea, but instead it is 14 degrees and pissing with rain.

Today we decided to hire some bikes, but in the Scotty and Emu tradition it rained as soon as we hopped on. No matter we thought, we will go to the indoor mud baths where it will be nice and warm. Closed. We were comforted to see though that it was open every other day of the week except for the days that we are here. (You can see the lovely building below)

A quick ride past the indoor water park was enough to show us that it was too full of children and we decided that riding in the rain out to the "breakwater" (flat as flat could be) was preferable.

We are now sitting in the hostel waiting for our clothes to dry and trying to decide on a decent hour to head to the pub, we are trying to hold out till 5pm.

However, despite the bad weather Pärnu really isn't so bad. There are nice green parks, quaint old buildings and a comfy wine bar which serves tasty apple cider and real cafe lattes. Plus we are still able to get our favourite salmon soup.

P.S We did not try any bear or other weird meats at the medieval restaurant in Tallinn. Instead we had the local specialty which a mixture of pork and beef with cabbage and berries as well as some honey and cinnamon beer which was really tasty. The restaurant was really cool inside, you can see the level detail they went to in the photo below. A medieval style toilet.

  1. I've been following your travels girls and the effort into the reporting is exceptional. Well done. All that effort should not go unrewarded ... so here it is a few words. Weather in Sydney is rather ordinary ... wet and cold. Had a red with Billy and Linda last night Scotty, got to get your old man on-line. Heading to Scotland on Friday ... covering The Open golf championship next week. Look forward to the next installment. Stay safe girls ... that is a real old persons comment LOL Rob

  2. Hi Girls What is it with you and bikes? Parnu doesn't LOOK much fun! The "self portrait" was a bit suss. "What big eyes you have grandma". Pop says hi but has only seen your 1st 2 blogs at Margaret's. We are all fine here. Thanks for letting Emma have a turn Nicole! (although we know most would be a combined effort). I think you should have gone INSIDE the waterpark - supposed to be the BIGGEST IN THE WORLD!!!!! I think being wet and cold, it would have been OK to hit the pub before 5. What is "real" cafe latte? Is there any salmon IN the soup or is it just WHERE the salmon has been swimming. I can't imagine it - is it thick or watery? Talk soon

  3. Just got your blog site from Mum today. Enjoyed reading it and following your travels. You are certainly in an interesting part of the world. The detail in the restaurant is amazing, Mum could get some ideas for her bathroom renovation. I think Steph tried bear in Canada. Didn't say what it was like. Don't know shy you didn't go into the water part when you were already wet. Weather sounds similar to ours, only we are a little warmer. You must try the Russian Vodka, used to be soooo cheap and it is very yummy!! Also, Russian ice cream is the best I have ever tasted. Good on you for eating local delicacies. Enjoy every day of your adventure. You may run into Steph somewhere. She said London was really hot. Love Jill & Stuart.
